Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why would you hire us, when you have a garden hose?

Cleaning your bins by hand exposes you to harmful bacteria which will then flow straight into storm drains, contaminating the water that it enters. Did you know, the water in your garden hose is not hot enough to kill the bacteria in your bins not to mention the water used when doing it by yourself is 40 times greater than when using our professional high-pressure system.

  • Why do I need someone to clean my bins?

With a garden hose and cleaning solution you risk contaminating the storm drain and your grass and there is only so much you can do. Our technicians use our specialized bin cleaning system that removes hard to reach dirt, grime, and bacteria that has built up over time.  Our cleaning service helps save you time, energy, and of course keeps you healthy.

  • Does someone need to be home when Trash Bandicoot arrives?

No. Since we clean your bins on the same day as your waste and recycling pickup, your bins should already be out by the curb. We will clean your bins and leave them curbside and when you get home you will be wheeling your fresh smelling bins back to their usual location.

  • How often should my bins be cleaned?

We recommend having your bins cleaned once a month as the bacteria will continue to grow up. Having regular cleans will limit the breeding grounds and of course keep you, your family and pets healthy.

  • What should I expect on my scheduled service day?

When we arrive for your scheduled cleaning (same day as your scheduled pick up), please ensure your bins are curbside and empty.  We will sanitize, disinfect, and deodorize your bins. We use hot, pressurized water to clean your bins, killing 99.9% of germs, bacteria, and odors. We will finish off by spraying your bins with our environmentally friendly deodorizer.

  • Are you environmentally friendly?

Yes we are, this is our number one priority.   We offer an environmentally friendly service that sanitizes, disinfects, and deodorizes your bins with water 185 Fahrenheit without the use of harmful chemicals.

  • How do I know my bins have been cleaned?

If the freshness does not give it away, we will turn your bin facing away from the curb.

  • Will I be notified before you clean my bins?

Yes! You will receive a communication from us one week before your bin cleaning and then another communication the day before your scheduled visit.

  • Do you work on holidays?

We operate on the same schedule as your local waste company’s pick-up which is typically Monday-Friday. Should your pick-up be delayed, our service will follow the new pick up date.  Please check your Waste Collection Calendar.

  • What about the dirty water?

We dispose of our dirty water properly following local government guidelines. Dirty water will never be dumped in your yard or on the street.

  • What condition should the bins be in before a scheduled cleaning?

Your bins must be free of garbage with the exception of small pieces of trash stuck to the bottom of the bin left after your scheduled pick up. Please note, if there is unbagged animal or human waste, we will not be able to clean your bins due to contamination of the equipment and health hazards. Bins must not have any paint, chemicals, cat litter or hazardous waste.

  • Why are one-time cleans more expensive?

One-time cleanings require more labour and detailed cleanings due to the build up inside the bins. They also required specific individual scheduling and billing which is why we recommend our monthly service.

  • Will you be using hazardous chemicals?

With the environment at the front of out mind, we aim to use nothing hazardous and all of our cleaning products are completely biodegradable.

  • Can you remove paint and other “permanent” items that have dried inside my bin?

Paint and other adhesives are extremely difficult to remove and may not ever come off. We always do the best that we can do, should your bins not have been washed in many years it may take a few cleans before the problem areas start to be removed.
